Design and Technology!

As part of our Design and Technology topic, we have been exploring Chinese cuisine found in the eight different regions of China! It seemed that most of Dove class love spicy food and would therefore love to go to the Sichuan region. We were all in agreement that 'chicken in milk soup' which is a native dish from the Shandong region, doesn't sound too appetising! Here you can see the children having fun using QR codes to explore native dishes from each region...
In English we enjoyed reading another novel by Michael Morpurgo - The Butterfly Lion. We were so captivated by the storyline, that we decided to write our own animal stories linked to our topic. We carefully planned out the 5 sections of our story to ensure there was a clear beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. We then edited and proof-read our novels to make them the best they could be and thoroughly enjoyed designing an engaging front cover for our stories. Here are a few of our amazing book cover designs and I hope you enjoy reading a few of the stories by pupils in Year 5.

In Science we have been exploring the life cycle of an amphibian and a butterfly...

Take a look at some of our beautiful pieces of art work...

This half term we have continued to focus our attention on abstract art. Dove class have thoroughly enjoyed creating abstract pieces of art work linked to our animal topic. We created jungle themed pictures based on the work of Henri Rousseau, who always includes enlarged flowers and plants into his paintings. We then decided to take a look at our own faces and created a self portrait  with one half of our face drawn accurately and the other half painted in an abstract manner - we think they look fantastic! To finish our art for this term, we sketched and used water colours to paint stunning profiles of a tiger. Have a look at our stunning pieces of work! smiley

Abstract Space Art

In Art we have been exploring abstract art created by the artist Kandinsky. We were inspired by the work of Kandinsky and re-created our own pieces of abstract art with a spectacular space theme. Have a look at our stunning artists at work...
