PE
At Tennyson Road Primary School we believe that Physical Education is essential to the development of the whole child.
It provides the foundations to promote healthy lifestyles and develops character building, cooperation and self-esteem.
KS1 - During their P.E lessons, children in foundation stage and key stage 1 concentrate on developing their fundamental movement skills. Running, jumping, throwing and catching will be our main focus as well as developing balance, agility and coordination. We have busy, fun lessons where pupils challenge themselves, work individually and in groups and learn to follow rules of new games.
KS2 - P.E lessons at key stage 2 focus on recapping existing skills of running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination. Lessons emphasis putting these skills into games and applying basic principles suitable for attacking and defending. Pupils enjoy taking on roles such as time keeper, scorer, referee and are able to give basic feedback on others sporting performance. We challenge all pupils to improve on their performance and achieve their personal best.
Pupils have to opportunity to take part in the wide range of extra-curricular clubs on offer ranging from scootering, to football, tennis and gardening.
As a school we are involved with an extensive competition programme. Pupils are taken off site to compete against other local schools in a wide range of sports and activities. These include boccia, ultimate frisbee and athletics.
Every year we hold a sportsday for all pupils, the emphasis on mass participation with many fun events running alongside the more traditional!
