Music at Tennyson Road

We are very proud at Tennyson Road to have a long-established tradition of offering our children extensive opportunities to experience musical learning. We consider performing arts to be an essential ingredient of a broad, balanced curriculum, and an indispensable part of a child’s educational experience.

Among the many weekly activities these opportunities include:

*Weekly singing assembly

*Key Stage 1 Singing Club

*Key Stage 2 Choir

*Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (Year 2 and 3 learn the recorder. The rest of Key Stage 2 get to learn the guitar and use the instrument throughout the curriculum).

*Charanga – We are subscribed to and make extensive use of this repository of structured lessons and materials which offers coverage in line with the national curriculum for music.

*Jolly Music – Kodaly based curriculum to introduce all children in key stage 1 to structured musical learning.

*One to one and group instrumental lessons in Piano, Guitar, Drums, Flute and Clarinet.

All children learning an instrument in class have had the opportunity to perform in end of term concerts. Our instrumentalists have taken part in recitals and some have even taken grade exams with the ABRSM.

This year we took our choir to the young voices event at the 02 in London where the children got to perform with over 8000 other children with a live band in a stadium environment.

We also take part in the Annual Luton Singing spectacular and have performed in the Luton Mall in the run up to Christmas.

We have also made use of outside groups to deliver events like a steel pan workshop.

If you wish to register an interest in signing your child up for instrumental lessons please speak to a member of staff in the school office.
