Computing

‘A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.’

The children at Tennyson Road receive a diverse Computing curriculum beginning in the Foundation Stage. Through ‘plugged’ and ‘unplugged’ activities, our pupils will gain key knowledge and understanding of the three strands of the subject area: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.

In Key Stage One, children will learn about the fundamentals of algorithms by learning how to programme technology such as ‘Bee-Bots’, whilst also debugging simple programs. They will also recognise the common uses of technology outside of school and how they have helped shape the world.

By the end of Key Stage Two, our pupils will be able to design, write and debug their own programs with specific goals using tools such as Python and Scratch. The children will also understand computer networks, including the internet, and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration.

Throughout their Computing journey, all children will be taught how to use computers and the internet respectfully and responsibly and identify a range of ways to report concerns.
