We are Robin Class!

We are Robin Class! 1 We are Robin class ... ready for learning!

Wednesday 3rd February 2016

We have been learning about reading and writing instructions in Robin class. Today we followed a recipe, which is a set of instructions, to make gingerbread men. We loved the smell of the cinnamon and ginger and thought the golden syrup looked like honey! Miss Powell was impressed, once again, with how great we were at working together in groups and how fantastic the children whose job it was to crack the eggs managed! smiley Have a look at our photos  and find a copy of the recipe we used below. Maybe you could have a go at making some too!

Gingerbread Man Recipe

27th January 2016.

What a busy day we had today! This morning when we all arrived in class we spotted the hi-viz jackets in the room and wondered what surprise was in store for us! As we settled down for our reading, register and minute maths we kept trying to guess what might be happening. Miss Powell then explained that we were going to the South Campus to watch a performance about anti-bullying. Despite the fact it was raining, we set out on our adventure up the hill with enthusiasm. We really enjoyed the show - it was funny and delivered an important message about anti-bullying. Charlie was chosen as a volunteer to join in with the actors; we were all so proud of his fantastic performance.

After lunch, we had more excitement in store ... a fantastic science investigation. We had to investigate materials to find out which one would be best to use in Cindrella's mop. We wanted to find out which material was the most absorbent and tried to carry out a fair test, practising many skills such as accurate measuring and working co-operatively with others in our group.

Maths is fun! Working together to solve a puzzle where we had to match repeated addition and times number sentences.

DECEMBER 2015

At the moment, in Robin  class, we are trying hard to learn our 2 times table. We have been practising by playing a game called 'Hit the Button'. When we beat our previous high score we earn a house point. Some of us are getting so quick we are very near to beating Miss Powell's score! frown

In Science, we investigated which materials are waterproof. We made a hat and poncho for Little Ted out of different materials: paper, tissue paper, card, felt, tinfoil and plastic.  Then we thought about what was the best way to test if the material was waterproof.  We decided to pour water from above as if it was raining. To try to make it a fair test we made the hats and ponchos the same size and measured the same amount of water to squirt on each material. What really surprised us was that the paper and card were a little bit waterproof at first but we know that if we had poured more water on them Little Ted would have got very wet!

Making Bread 10th December 2015

"Today was the best day ever!" could be heard throughout Robin classroom today and the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread filled our nostrils. While making bread rolls, we learnt to use a sieve and measuring spoons, read the scale on the measuring jug accurately and how to knead the dough. Working together in groups and listening carefully to instructions were important skills we showed. Miss Powell was very proud of how sensible we were and thinks there are some natural bakers in the class. Thankfully we remembered to turn off the oven and didn't cause a fire like Thomas Farriner did in the Great Fire of London!

Christmas has arrived at last in Robin Class ... today we had a Christmas craft morning. We invited our grandparents in to join us. We painted wooden tree decorations, made jointed Santas and Rudolphs and did some colouring by numbers. With Christmas music playing, fun activities AND visitors in the class we had a fantastic morning.
